Bloomington Robotics Teams Find Success this Season

Bloomington’s Artificial Intelligence robotics team of Oak Grove Middle School students received the Innovation Projects Award at the World For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Lego League competition earlier this month. 

The Artificial Intelligence team of Ben Yehl-Kennard, Siena O'Keefe, Omera Syed, Braeden Armstrong-Johnson, Benjamin Farrell and Ana Yanz (MPS) were one of four finalists for the Innovation Project out of 106 world teams. Overall, the team came in 27th in the world for robot runs and seventh out of the US teams.

The championship is an international competition and an annual celebration for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Elementary and middle school students are judged on core values, robot design and innovative projects. 

The co-op robotics team of Jefferson and Kennedy high school students advanced to compete in the MSHSL State Robotics tournament May 7 at the University of Minnesota Williams Arena. 

Team Bjorg is one of 200 active teams statewide and placed seventh in the quarterfinals at the Northern Lights regional and placed 26th in the semifinals at the 10,000 Lakes regional to qualify for the state competition. The team consists of one Kennedy student and 23 Jefferson students. 

The team placed 14th overall at the state competition.
