Seventh grade students from Bloomington Public Schools’ three middle schools took the top spots in the City-Wide Civics Bee, held Jan. 31 in the Bloomington city council chambers.

The top three finishers were Josiah Brecheisen (Olson), Ryan Frischmon (Valley View), and Sawyer Hand (Oak Grove).

To qualify for the event, all BPS seventh grade students took a qualifying exam. Students were invited to participate in a Civics Bee at their respective schools. Finalists from each school were invited to participate in the City-Wide Civics Bee, where Mayor Tim Busse quizzed them with 13 rounds of civics-related questions.

This is the fifth year BPS has partnered with the League of Women Voters Bloomington and the city to organize this event to foster civic engagement among young students.
