Bloomington Public Schools is taking its partnership with CreateMPLS online. The organization provides robotics and coding to fifth grade art classes in each of the district’s elementary schools and now the K-12 online school, New Code Academy (NCA).

Students use the kits to solve problems, create prototypes, and participate in design challenges. One example is a challenge to build a robot that can hop. Students create a prototype to test their concepts. Once they find a solution and design that works, students are challenged to come up with another one that can do even better.

Students attending NCA share their creations with their teacher and classmates through pictures and self-recordings via Seesaw.

The partnership between the district’s Computer Science team and CreateMPLS began at Valley View Elementary last year with students using robots to draw patterns on paper. Bringing this programming to our in-person and online students is an exciting next step that supports the district’s commitment to Computer Science for All.
