Kennedy girls place in state wrestling tournament

Kennedy senior Kelsey Cruz Rojas and sophomore Noelia Fierro competed in the state wrestling tournament held Feb. 29 - Mar. 2. at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. They are the first Kennedy girls to ever place in the state wrestling tournament.

Cruz Rojas placed third in the 148-lbs division. She plans to wrestle for Augsburg College after high school. Fierro placed sixth in the 136-lbs division. Both girls earned all-state honors.

This is the third year of girls wrestling in the Minnesota State High School League, with more than 1,000 girls participating this year.

The Kennedy boys wrestling team won the conference individual tournament and placed 2nd in the section team tournament.

Assistant coach Natalie Fisher was named the Section 5AA Assistant Coach of the Year by the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association.
