Assistant Supt. receives outstanding leadership award

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jenna Mitchler

Assistant superintendent Dr. Jenna Mitchler received the Outstanding Central Office Leader Award from the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA). Dr. Mitchler was recognized for her leadership, concern for students, willingness to take risks, strong communication skills, and being a leader for change. Dr. Mitchler was honored at the MASA Spring Conference.

As the assistant superintendent of Bloomington Public Schools, Dr. Mitchler leads efforts in cultural proficiency, student achievement and school climate. She helped create a Safe and Supportive Schools plan to improve the wellbeing of students and staff, supervises and guides principals, and has played a key role in students exceeding national projections for academic achievement.

Dr. Mitchler’s career began in BPS as a high school English teacher and then as a lead curriculum and instruction specialist. She was the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment and Student Support for District 197, before returning to BPS in 2019 as assistant superintendent. 

Dr. Mitchler serves on the MASA Board of Directors and Legislative subcommittee, is the president of University of Minnesota’s College of Education and Human Development Alumni Board, and an executive board member of the Hennepin County Children’s Mental Health Collaborative.
