Kennedy High School career and college counselor Timmy Nguyen received the Pioneer Award from the City of Bloomington. The award is part of the city’s Pioneers and Changemakers series, which recognizes local Black leaders working to advance Civil Rights, remove barriers to equity and make a difference in their communities.

Nguyen guides students as they explore opportunities for post-secondary education and careers. The city recognized Nguyen for his dedication to helping students overcome potential obstacles they may encounter, recognizing the potential of every student to achieve success, offering constructive support, and building an environment to support students’ personal and academic growth.

"This recognition is a huge honor. Sharing the spotlight with other amazing Pioneers and Changemakers is incredibly fulfilling,” said Nguyen. “Hearing their stories and experiences has fired me up to push myself even further. If I can achieve just a fraction of what they have, I'll know I'm on the right track. I'm excited to keep the momentum going and continue learning along the way."
