Elementary schools held a district-wide Battle of the Books competition, testing fifth grade students on their knowledge of books they read throughout the school year. The event was hosted at Olson Elementary School, marking the first time the event was held since before the pandemic. Students from nine elementary schools competed in the event.

Students chose from a list of ten books to read. Each school held qualifying competitions with winning teams participating in the district Battle of the Books. Superintendent Eric Melbye emceed and quizzed students on story details from the books they read. Students were required to correctly name the title of the book from which details were shared.

The Poplar Bridge team of Aria Wobbema, Fiona Madetzke, Ayla Rogers and Willa Bishop won the competition with the most correct answers. They took home certificates and a traveling trophy to be displayed at the school until next year’s Battle of the Books.

BEC-TV broadcast the event, which can be viewed online.
